Introduction

branch started operations in 1997 December. There are
three executives and three non-executives employed in
the branch.

Development, Portfolio Growth, Special Projects Undertaken
Despite a setback in the gem industry, the branch was able to record a 70% increase in loan portfolios and a 50% increase in lease portfolios. Growth in approvals have been 104% in loans and 84% in lease. The slow disbursement rate can be attributed to multi-stage disbursement patterns, adapted for agricultural loans.
Business Opportunities, Prospects and Challenges for Future Growth
As
per expert opinion, the tea industry should continue
to perform well unless an unforeseen drought changes
this situation. Hence there are still opportunities
in the tea industry and also for spin-offs from the
industry.Although
there are a number of tourist attractions in Sabaragamuwa,
services and hotel facilities available to foreign tourists
can be further improved. The branch is trying to exploit
the potential investments in this industry.Seethawaka Industrial Park
and Kuruwita Industrial Zone, which have commenced operations
recently, are expected to provide facilities and infrastructure
for hundreds of new industries. The Branch is very optimistic
in giving financial assistance to the industries, which
will be set up at these two industrial parks.
