Strategic Thinking Behind its Formation
The structural transformation that took place at the DFCC Bank in mid-1999 clearly identified the need to set up a separate strategic business unit (SBU), in order to offer our small and medium scale clients a total solutions package for their financial requirements.
The Colombo Office of the DFCC Bank was formally inaugurated on
October 15, 1999 at the DFCC Head Office and relocated to 73, W A D Ramanayake Mawatha on 29 December 1999.
Affiliating well-qualified and experienced officers and managers in the areas of (SME) project financing and leasing, the operations of the Colombo Office were precisely streamlined with the ultimate goal of providing total customer satisfaction.
The Colombo Office during its brief history has funded quite a number of pioneering projects. Details of a few of these projects are given below.
Unique Projects
The
branch has provided assistance to business ventures
in the form of project loans, working capital loans,
finance leases and guarantee facilities.

Mandarin
Farm (MF) MF,
the largest layer farm in the island has embarked on an
expansion and modernization programme with an estimated
cost of Rs 65 Mn.
Under
the project, the farm will switch over from conventional
sheds to the latest battery cage system, and introduce
chain feeder and nipple drinker systems. The introduction
of new technology will help MF to drastically reduce costs
and increase efficiency.
Vindana
Reproductive Health (Pvt) Ltd. (VRH) VRH is the first in-vitro human
fertilization project launched by one of the country's
most reputed gynaecologists.
Before setting up VRH, many women
who were unable to have children had to undergo in-vitro
fertilization procedures abroad, where costs were approximately Rs 1.0 Mn. However, VRH
has performed several of these procedures at a cost of
Rs 0.3 Mn.
The total project cost for the
Centre was Rs 20.0 Mn, and DFCC Bank, Colombo Office partly
financed the cost of import of the high-tech equipment
for the project.
